Update your Apple gadgets now because hackers could ‘take control’ of them, US Department of Homeland Security warns

The US Department of Homeland Security has urged Apple fans to update their devices immediately.

In an unusual warning, the department’s National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center said hackers could seize control of victims’ devices.

It told users to update their iPhone, Apple TV and Mac Computer – as well as calling on them to install the latest versions of several key pieces of software.

Update your Apple gadgets now because hackers could ‘take control’ of them, US Department of Homeland Security warns

‘Apple has released security updates to address vulnerabilities in multiple products,’ it said in a statement.
‘An attacker could exploit some of these vulnerabilities to take control of an affected system.
‘The NCCIC encourages users and administrators to review the Apple security pages for the following products and apply the necessary updates.’
Apple said a security flaw in its Safari browser, iTunes for Windows and iCloud for Windows could allow ‘address bar spoofing’, which means web pages show the wrong address.

Hackers could use this to draw victims onto a dodgy site designed to steal your data, whilst tricking them into thinking it’s a safe page.

The bug could also allow ‘interface spoofing’, which means a website could be altered to fool you into handing over bank details or other key data.

The flaw affecting Apple’s iOS, which powers iPads and iPhones, could let someone access your contacts even though the device is locked.
